These shots were taken at Second Valley on the Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia. It's a great spot for fishing, swimming or just clambering over rocks and admiring the views.

St Sampson's, Cornwall, UK

After a gap of some 40 years, I revisited the UK in 2009 for 6 weeks. It was wonderful to renew friendships and be shown charming sights (& sites) such as St Sampson's in Golant, Cornwall. The ceiling I found particularly fascinating and the stained glass window above the altar is beautiful .

Housed quite happily among the soursobs and other weeds, this funghi caught my attention  - but I wasn't game to take it home to cook!!

Tasmania's Russell Falls

This shot of the Russell Falls in Tasmania was taken during a wonderful holiday in 2006. The falls became Tasmania's first nature reserve  in 1885 and are located in the Mount Field National Park (in the island's south-west) which comprises a remarkably diverse 16,265 hectares (40,191 acres).  A "must see" for every visitor to the picturesque island of Tasmania!

Richmond Bridge reflections

Richmond Bridge, Tasmania.  If you enlarge the image, you will see the name of the then Lieutenant-Governor of Tasmania , Colonel George Arthur (1784-1854) and, if you're familiar with Roman numbering, you'll be able to work out the year showing on the bridge beneath his name.

Richmond, Tasmania

The Richmond Bridge is heritage listed and is located on the original "Convict Trail" some 25 kms north of Tasmania's capital - Hobart - and is the oldest bridge still in use in Australia today.  It was constructed in sandstone by convicts in 1825 and continues to attract many visitors (including artists) to this charming "village".

"Rugged rural mountains.."

This was one of many waterfalls seen during a fascinating journey on the Kuranda Scenic Railway near Cairns in North Queensland.

Crowne Plaza Hotel complex - Melbourne

This is another shot taken within the Crowne Plaza where the spectacular light, sound and water show depicting the four seasons is displayed.  On the right hand side wall of this shot you can see images of palm fronds (see weekend reflections and below for others)

This is part of a daily spectacular light, sound & water feature show within the complex which depicts the four seasons. This is just one of the walls on which images are displayed and one of several "fountains" from which differing spouts of water emerge. Captivating!

Drink up, little one!

During a re-visit to England in 2009, I saw my first bumble bee (posted a month or so past)

Although not nearly as impressive, this little fella caught my attention as it was busily drinking the nectar from this flower.

A stroll along the Towpath, Oxford

The River Isis runs through Oxford in England and in times past canal boats carrying goods for consumption by locals used to be towed by horses walking along these paths (hence the name "towpath").  In more recent times these paths offer a delightful and peaceful environment for a gentle stroll - or jog, for the more energetic!

More delights from the garden ...

Recently I posted a couple of photos of some surprise "arrivals" (Irises) in my rather neglected back garden (neglected principally - but not only - because of my 11 month-old puppy's presence!).


Well this week further wonderful blooms made their presence known - their fragrance is heavenly. (I suspect these have survived Miss Jessie's attention because the plants grew to about 5.5 feet before blooming!)

They strike me as being so very beautiful in their simplicity.

Skywatch Friday - From the Golf Links

This was taken from the edge of the North Adelaide Golf Links and it was mesmerising to see how much the sky changed over the course of just 5-10 minutes from the time of our arrival until the sun set so spectacularly.  How blessed we are that our Creator paints such awesome scenes for us each day!

England - Ramsbury

In an earlier posting, I promised to show more images of the delightful village of Ramsbury, near Swindon in Wiltshire.  So here's a further taste of life in this glorious region of the UK .  .  .

 Above is a wonderful example of a thatched roof which has come to be symbolic of England.  (Pity about the modern street lamp though!)

And here is a close-up of the actual thatching - quite an art !

These two cottages and their front gardens just caught my attention

and begged to be photographed as a reminder of a delightful afternoon's stroll through the village.

Our World Tuesday - Middleton's Beach

Once again I find myself drawn to images of the fabulous Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia. This time, it's Middleton's Beach - a great favourite for surfers. (If you enlarge this shot, you will see them in the water on the bottom right hand side of the picture). It was April and somewhat thundery but no great storm resulted - pity!

England - Ramsbury in Wiltshire

During my return visit to the UK in 2009, I had the pleasure of staying with friends of friends in the wonderful village of Ramsbury in Wiltshire (I have referred to it in previous posts).

Above is the Church of the Holy Cross, of which there is evidence of it pre-dating 900 AD

 The beautiful workmanship in the windows fascinated me.
