Canal travel

During my stay in Cheshire earlier this year, I came across this group of narrow-boat travellers negotiating the lock gates.

the boat looked very elegant

... and here the different water levels can clearly be seen

Surprisingly, this particular gate was only constructed in 1994

Safely through that lock, the youngsters in the group had raced ahead ready to operate the next one!

It does appear to be a lovely way to see the countryside, but am told you need to be fit to operate the gates (perhaps why this chap chose to bring the youngsters along?!)

(With much sadness I dedicate this post to Lady Fi's beautiful dog Oscar and trust that she may be comforted in the knowledge that her many posts which included his delightful face and activities, brought great joy to the family of photo bloggers and he will not be forgotten)

Out of the mist . . .

Just had an unexpected couple of days on the River Murray with good friends - lovely crisp mornings gently unfolding into beautiful warm days.

Following is a selection of the scenes that greeted me on the second morning - mist rising from the water, revealing the movement of Pelicans as they majestically paddled up and downstream.
(Perhaps I should have titled this post "Serenity"!)

Welcoming B&B

While exploring the countryside around Congleton in Cheshire, England during my holiday house exchange in April this year, I came across this welcoming Bed'n'Breakfast property - Yew Tree Farm.

Although I was not in need of accommodation, its setting was charmingly attractive so I took a few shots and am happy to give them a free "plug" in the process!

This Bearded Iris was growing in the streets of Giverny, on the way to Monet's Garden, visited in May this year.
