Seeking new territory in which to walk with my dog Jessie, I opted for an area just a short drive from home - Cobbler Creek. It is quite hilly and offers great views down to the coast. The tracks/trails are shared by hikers and bikers, but on this particular day I only came upon one other person who also was out exercising his canine friend.
There are lots of Scotch Thistle (or Onopordum acanthium to those seeking a botanical name) in the area which, despite being declared a weed, I find have a unique beauty. When in flower, they display a vivid shade of purple (at least here in South Australia - it may be different in other regions of the world).
However, even when they've finished blooming they still provide an appealing sight.
.... below is the view towards Greenwith
across the windswept hillside
Thankfully the rain held off and, although a bit on the blustery side, it was an invigorating walk which I will doubtless embark upon again in the coming cooler months when one doesn't have to worry about the presence of snakes!

Autumn is such a fabulous time for a walk when the weather is sunny. Happy days.
It's beginning to look wintry down there. I'm a fan of the humble thistle too.
Great photos. I especially like the way you have captured the grass blown by the wind on the hillside. btw I am glad to find someone else that loves the outdoors but does NOT love snakes!
The grasses look beautiful and the thistles are amazing. I was just thinking what a perfect place for a walk and then I read the last sentence about snakes. I am not afraid of snakes but with the number of venomous ones you have there maybe walking in unknown territory, as I do here, is not the most sensible thing to do.
It is an interesting plant, the thistle. Great shots of the grassy hillside and nice views too.
Love the soft grasses and that winding path.
Oh I love thistle ~ must be my Scottish heritage ~ Beautiful photos!
Happy Week to you,

Nice pics of the thistle!
I love the thistle seed heads!
What a fabulous walk and lots of room for Jessie to exercise her little legs. Yes those thistles have a wonderful appeal and add to the windswept landscape.
