Getting to the bottom of things ... !

Taken last July when my Jessie was 8 months old -

First you have to establish who's the boss . . .

. . . then you explore a little . . .

. . I know that hide bone is around here somewhere !

After all that effort, I'm exhausted !

. . . and now you want me to do WHAT ??!

Toward the Gulf

From the rear "conservatory" of splendid Carrick Hill in the Adelaide foothills, this reflection shows some of the western suburbs through to the Gulf of St Vincent, some 20-25 miles away.

Autumn in Houghton

Above is the result of a recent, brief re-visit to Houghton in the Adelaide Hills with a good friend on her birthday. We were pleased to still see some rich Autumnal colours around this pretty "hamlet" - and I couldn't resist capturing one of the local "residents"!
While the air was a little crisp in the shade, the glorious warmth of the sun could still be felt through our jackets when we returned to the Village Square.

"Underneath the lamp post . . ."

This rather elegant window (& reflected lamp post) caught my eye in Adelaide City's Leigh Street.

Laying down on the job!

We passed these cute sheep in a field in Sittingbourne, Kent during a lengthy walk within a few days of our arrival in the UK in 2009 (see previous posts relating to this trip)

Versailles, France

During a 5-day visit to France (in conjunction with a 6-week revisit to the UK with friends) in 2009, we toured the Palace of Versailles and its Gardens.
Both were breathtaking - in size, design and artistry. It was the residence of King Louis XIV prior to the French Revolution, when he returned to Paris.

Happy weekend all.

Memories of England

Three years ago this week, I was revisiting the UK (after a 40 year absence) with close friends. Following are just a handful of images which bring back a flood of happy memories . . .

. . . some of the wonderful rolling fields in Kent

. . . and here the River Stour winds through Canterbury past the fascinating Weaver's Inn on the left

. . . and these gorgeous Bluebells greeted us on our arrival in England

. . . (for some inexplicable reason I became somewhat "fixated" on bees during our visit !)

. . . and one of many glorious leadlight windows seen in various churches and cathedrals

. . . here's the quaint tram providing transport down to the fascinating Cornish seaside village of Polperro.

. . . a regal swan spotted on an estate in South Wales

. . . the famous White Cliffs of Dover

Reculver in Kent - the remains of the Abbey of St Augustine built in Saxon times.

(Just adore these ancient buildings, as Australia is such a young country in comparison)

Ripples

From Kings Beach, Caloundra in Queensland - the shapely design made by ripples of seawater in a rock pool appealed to my eye. . . . and then
I spotted this pair of Cormorants grooming in preparation for their next fishing expedition!
(I'm told the rocks along the shore in this area are volcanic, hence their dark colour)

Rambling & Flowers

On a gorgeous Winter's day in August last year (before I began this blog site), my photography buddy and I were out on a ramble in the northern Adelaide foothills and following are some of the beautiful flora we encountered during our outing.

Not a good capture, but . . can you see the butterfly hanging onto the blossom?

Pretty grasses

While waiting for friends outside their doctor's rooms, I spotted these attractive grasses in the carpark.

Patience required !

At the end of a long day, keen to get home after a fleeting interstate getaway, my flight was delayed by about an hour ("that's nothing" I can hear some of you say !). . . an opportunity to catch up on some reading or simply observe fellow travellers.
Happy weekend to all.
