Snow, glorious snow!

Reliving the experience!
Following are some more images taken at Mt Baw Baw in Victoria last month.

(I was very tempted to head off "the beaten track" and get amongst those trees looking for different angles, etc. however, an image of suddenly finding myself waist-deep in snow - without waterproofs other than boots - kept my enthusiasm under control!)

. . . the rich colours of the fabulous Snow Gums continue to enthral me!

From the rooftops of the chalets, the "big thaw" became more evident as the day wore on

Aah . . . . memories of a fabulous day!

Gippsland Floral treats

Hardenbergia - also known as "The Happy Wanderer"

Sorry I don't know the botanical name for this one, but it is commonly known as
"Red Hot Poker"

and here is a group of them in late afternoon sun

and finally, what I know as a Tree Dahlia (but happy to be corrected on this and all of the above!)

Venus Bay, Gippsland

Following are scenes of Venus Bay in Gippsland, Victoria.
The name of the bay was apparently bestowed by an expedition led by French explorer Nicholas Baudin.

It was a particularly cold and blustery day, but I couldn't resist venturing out!
The mist from the ocean's spray blew in along the coast - direct from Bass Strait
The power in the crashing waves I found somewhat hypnotic!

The Sooty Oystercatchers, Pacific Gulls and Silver-backed Gulls searched for morsels of food in the sand and in the water
Perhaps a territorial dispute in progress?!
The noise from the crashing, turbulent waves was thunderous!
Here, one can see the turbulence of the water as sand is churned up from the ocean floor
and flicked through the air as the waves complete their cycle
(I just like the different textures of timber, sand & grass in this one)

(I wasn't the only one out braving that biting wind!)

A Pacific Gull (I think a juvenile as the tip of its beak hasn't yet turned orange)

Great Ocean Road scenes

Returning last month from the house & cat-sit in Gippsland,
I drove back to South Australia via the fabulous Great Ocean Road
and following is a taste of the scenery to be experienced on that route

Before reaching the coast, I drove through part of the Otway Ranges and
spotted this reflection in the river

Treats from Willunga

A delightful day's outing to Willunga in South Australia today, delivered the opportunity to capture these bold coloured tulips in a local garden

. . . and just down the street this (I think) Japonica was begging to be appreciated

Then came the original purpose for our trip - almond blossom

and the flowering gum didn't escape my attention either!

Kookaburra

This Laughing Kookaburra and its companions were spotted during a walk
along the riverbanks in the lovely Victorian town of Warburton.

After being content to pose for me for several minutes, this one then joined its
two companions nearby, one of which had obviously just been out for a "takeaway" meal!

Timeless

Yarragon is a town on the main highway between Melbourne and the eastern-most part of the Australian State of Victoria and is located in the Gippsland region.

The bakeries and shops providing gift options, art and craft works are charmingly enticing - their offerings seem fairly unique, and one was hard-pressed not to step inside and explore further!

With all the terrible events occurring worldwide, the message below seems relevant ....

These cute critters fascinated (and I'm disappointed not to have enquired about the material used in their creation)
