Island beauty

This view was captured in the Brentwood Bay area of the southern part of the island

 

but, heading further north, the Campbell River marina came into view



 

and this colourful landing enticed would-be water taxi/tour customers 

Further inland I encountered the Campbell River en route to Elk River Falls

 

. . . and a couple of intrepid fishermen in the rejuvenated Campbell River Second Island

salmon spawning and rearing habitat

The riverside walk was delightful

Wait til you see what happened when I saw this guy on my way back to the car park ! ....

I loved the sound of those rushing, powerful waters

The beauty of the rainforest environment fills my senses every time!

. . . as promised, here's that fisherman proudly showing off his catch - which he subsequently released

Courtenay & Royston

Now, continuing the journey of discovering the delights of Vancouver Island . . . .

 

I came across Air Force Bay in Courtenay which I understand is also the area from which various sea planes take off. It was a glorious and comfortably warm day, and the well made

walking trail along the bay beckoned.

 

There were wild berries in abundance - not only here, but throughout my 6 week travels around the centre of the island.

 

I didn't spot the creator of this amazing piece of engineering!

 



A significant community project is currently underway to restore the Salt Marsh Lagoon for

marine life connectivity

Within a short drive I was in Royston and there in the bay were these shipwrecks,

Fast-forwarding from my previous posts, these shots were taken on my last evening in Comox, where I enjoyed a delicious meal with a good friend at the Black Fin Pub.

Joining in the fun at Stewart's Wild Bird Wednesday

Day 1 of the BC Adventure

Within hours of arriving at the house-sit property (after the 14 hour flight from Sydney Australia to Vancouver British Columbia, then the short flight from Vancouver to Comox), I was out exploring with my Nikon.

The temperature was warm enough for a t-shirt and I walked the short distance to

Lazo Marsh woodland.

 

. . . this path beckoned me to investigate further

 

then this sweet Ladybird caught my attention

and the vibrant green of the ferns showing off their fronds in the afternoon sun filtering through the trees demanded my focus

 

and here an American Robin swooped in to say hello

 

It was a delightful start to the adventure .....

Full to Overflowing

Just arrived back home again after almost 2 months of cat and house-sitting on stunning

Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.
 

Wow! What an exhilarating experience - my senses and cup overflow with joy at the majestic beauty this piece of paradise offers.
The shot above was taken from the balcony of the Black Fin pub in Comox and that thin strip of land in the background is Goose Spit (I'll have to investigate the reason for that ID !)

 

I have missed catching up with my fellow bloggers and participating in the various themes

but am looking forward to sharing with you some of my adventures in the coming weeks/months.

Following are some more images taken at Mt Baw Baw in Victoria last month.

 

 

 

 

(I was very tempted to head off "the beaten track" and get amongst those trees looking for different angles, etc. however, an image of suddenly finding myself waist-deep in snow - without waterproofs other than boots - kept my enthusiasm under control!)



 

 

. . . the rich colours of the fabulous Snow Gums continue to enthral me!

 



 From the rooftops of the chalets, the "big thaw" became more evident as the day wore on
