Fabulous Fleurieu

This past week I've enjoyed two trips to my favourite part of South Australia - the Fleurieu Peninsula - and yesterday's weather was perfect for just such a journey. The ocean and beaches are a sight to behold. Following is a taste of this region's beauty.

... then further up the coast a little way is Waitpinga - but more on that next week!

Fleurieu delights

Wow - hard to believe it's been almost 6 months since last I posted !
Following my return from captivating Vancouver Island in March, picking up the threads of every day life back in South Australia has kept me busy.

Now here I am just a few short weeks away from returning to my
"home away from home" once again for another extended visit
(thankful to be escaping what will undoubtedly be a scorchingly
hot Adelaide Summer!)

After a couple of weeks bringing erratic Spring temperatures -
ranging from 17C to 37C, yesterday was slightly overcast with
a glorious 19C, inviting a spontaneous decision to visit the lovely
Fleurieu Peninsula - in particular, the Ingalalla Falls.

 A beautiful Golden Whistler

 A couple of inquisitive Llamas

A pretty glade near the Ingalalla Falls

One of many Splendid Fairy Wrens darting around

A pair of VWs "put out to pasture"

A White-naped Honeyeater

Sure, it's not a breath-taking waterfall, but nonetheless pretty.

Linking up once again with
and grateful thanks to our hosts.

On the way home ...

On my way home from the Fleurieu Peninsula outing, I came across this lagoon

which was the "icing on the cake" - and yet another reminder (if one was needed!) of why this region is my favourite part of South Australia

Fabulous Fleurieu

Recently I visited a cousin who lives at Encounter Bay, near Victor Harbour on the fabulous Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia.
We drove to Petrel Cove and this was the scene from the carpark....

On the Victor Harbour side of the Bluff, I aimed my camera at this boat and its passengers - imagine my surprise, after uploading the image and zooming in, to notice the passengers had been deeply engrossed checking out their smartphones!!

. . . and this Magpie dropped by as we stood in the carpark

A lovely day's outing in good company in my very favourite part of our State.

Crazy piano!

During my recent rambles around the Fleurieu Peninsula, I spotted this artistically painted piano in a shopping mall.
(I doubt this is how Mr Wertheim anticipated one of his masterpieces would be used, but nevertheless it made a clever and colourful addition to the surroundings!)

What stories this holds

This charming old cottage, seemingly abandoned in the midst of the Fleurieu Peninsula, caused me to wonder about its former inhabitants and their lives.
I also wondered about what appears to be a huge painting leaning against the outside of the home - had it been on an inside wall? why was it now outside? how was it apparently not damaged by the weather???
(... wished I'd made an effort to ask these questions of locals at the time !!!)

. . . and these wonderful gum trees were adjacent to the Ingalalla Waterfall (shown in a previous post) - their rich trunk and bark colours complement the surrounding environment.

Contemplation

En route to capture the setting sun at Carrickalinga, I spotted this reflection in the front window of one of the properties strategically positioned along the seafront, from which such scenes can be viewed daily (assuming the owners are in residence! - many of the properties are holiday lets or used at weekends and for annual holidays by their owners who work in the city some 60kms north).

Carrickalinga Pt 1

Have just returned from a wonderfully relaxing few days in my very favourite part of South Australia - the Fleurieu Peninsula.
The following images convey just some of the delights this area has to offer.

Above is one section of Carrickalinga's beach

a cheeky Willie Wagtail (fan tail) seemed to follow us on one of our walks

Ingalalla Waterfall, just 10 or so kms inland from Carrickalinga

The southern end of Carrickalinga

Just a few of the gorgeous flowers in the area - Protea, (unknown), Hibiscus, Leucadendron and Banksia

. . . . and the northern end of Carrickalinga, where the dark, ridged rocks running into the sea resemble a moonscape

Hoping your week is going well, wherever you are, and linking up with
