Steam train

The delightful and fascinating Coal Creek Village (on the outskirts of Korumburra in Gippsland, Victoria), offers its visitors a steam train ride around its many acres.

Coal Creek Community Park & Museum was initially created to preserve the unique history of coal, the development of the South Gippsland railway and the rural settlement which was accelerated by the dairy and timber industries.

Coal was accidentally discovered in South Gippsland in 1872, near the present site of Coal Creek when James Brown’s horse, watering near the creek, kicked a sizable piece of coal free from the surface. Some 16 years later coal began to be mined. It was the first successful commercial coalfield in Victoria.  (Information courtesy of Melbourne Playgrounds)

Beautiful forests and it would be fun to take a train ride through it. I can't help thinking of the many people for whom such trains were the only means of transport - apart from their horses of course! Great photos.

Other than the difference in gauge our photos are almost identical! Great minds think alike.

Very beautiful photos of these old trains! Although I have been more than 13 times in Oz , I have never have been in Victoria. My daughter lives in Queensland in Cooktown with her Australian family. She has lived there since 1994.
Have a nice spring!
