Victoria Harbour, BC

Was thrilled, following an unanticipated visit to Victoria, BC, to have
arrived at the Harbour just on sunset.

Stormy seas!

This cabin cruiser, anchored just off shore in Blue Heron Bay, was no match for the
stormy seas buffeting its hull, almost submerging the vessel.

Here it is 3 days earlier!
Happy (for the owner's sake) to say it was salvaged and several days later was once
again moored in the bay awaiting its next outing.

Brentwood Bay

This is the area adjacent to Brentwood Bay Ferry terminal on Vancouver Island, which connects the Saanich Peninsula with Mill Bay on the main part of the Island.

Pink and Blue and ...

Another pretty sunset on Blue Heron Bay, overlooking one of the marinas

One of many fascinating homes (and fences) spotted throughout Vancouver Island -
in South Australia most of our houses are built of brick or stones:
timber houses are not the first choice of home builders here
due to potential white ant (termite) attack,
so it was refreshing to see the wonderful variety of timber home designs.

Observing is a joy

My Vancouver Island hosts have several bird feeders hanging around their property.
It was a constant delight to simply observe the different birds visiting their gardens
looking for a feed.
(Sadly, the images aren't as sharp as I'd like, because I was shooting through glass
from the house interior)

I'm told this sweet individual is a Ruby Crowned Kinglet

A colourful roof

This shed, full of character from the outside, caused me to back up the car
on my journey from Brentwood Bay to North Saanich, on Vancouver Island last month.
The air was crisp as I filled my lungs with the freshness of it all - it is SO
good to be far from suburbia!

A seemingly steamy welcome!

This was the scene that greeted me as I approached the car park entrance to
Englishman River Falls on Vancouver Island late one morning last month.
The temperature at the time was around 2C - not a humid 70+C that this might suggest!
Nevertheless, a worthwhile stop during my island exploration.

Just because ...

This abstract window display in a Sidney, Vancouver Island store appealed to me
because of the fresh colour combinations and mix of textures.

Creative wall art

The above clever and cheerful creations were painted on the side wall of a building
on Langley Street in downtown Victoria, BC.
What a marvellous, imaginative & uplifting addition they make to an
otherwise sombre and uninteresting brick wall - hats off to the painter!

Winter coats on !

Despite the snow, these Canadian Geese seemed in no hurry to reach the
adjacent Bird Sanctuary!

A Gaggle of Geese

I know that my contribution to last week's Skywatch Friday was very
similar to this shot, but I just couldn't help posting this one too!

After the snow ...

Spotted this fascinating "blossom" within Gowlland Tod Provincial Park on Vancouver Island
(which has subsequently been identified as "clematis vitalbae" - many thanks to fellow blogger, MaryAustria)

... and here the Tod Inlet is frozen over

(a regular visitor to the park who was there on the day commented that she has lived
in the area for more than 20 years and has never seen this occur before)

..some funghi

and a frozen/thawing creek

aahh.... so many delights on which to feast the eyes (and camera lens)!

Was it a dream?

Every morning for almost a month, I was greeted by magnificent vistas to start the day on Vancouver Island.
Back home again in suburban Adelaide, I have to ask myself "What is all a dream?"

Downtown Vancouver

Thanks to the generosity of a member of the West Vancouver Seniors
Photography Group who agreed to accompany me on a night shoot during
a brief stopover in Vancouver en route to Vancouver Island,
this shot was taken on one side of Robson Square in Downtown Vancouver at dusk.

With thanks to the hosts of straight out of the camera sunday

A puzzler?

This black item is (I think!) an electronic wall furnace (you can see the rocks
in line along the inside bottom edge), the surface of which is
reflecting back into the room - and there's even a "selfie" hiding behind the bench!

Morning arrival

Here we see the arrival of the Canadian Geese, as they wing their way across Blue Heron Bay
on Vancouver Island.  I was blessed to witness this each morning, as I heard
their honking - heralding their arrival as they flew into the adjacent bird sanctuary.
Once again, snow-dressed Mt Baker (in the US State of Washington)
stands tall and proud in the distance.

Male Hummingbird

This delightful male Hummingbird was one of many whose activities
I enjoyed watching over recent weeks - they are such tiny birds (and such a tease:
whenever I went to change their juice, they would "hummm" around my head,
but as soon as I lifted my camera - even indoors - they got camera shy!)

Our world

This globe was a hanging, rotating display inside a building adjacent to
Vancouver Harbour (near Canada Central I think) and the fact
that I waited until the rotation clearly showed Australia brought a smile
to the face of my night photography guide, Hans!

Mt Baker, Washington

Looking along the length of Blue Heron Bay on Vancouver Island, Mt Baker
(located in the US State of Washington), looms large and majestic on the horizon.
