Day's End

Escaping the day's heat at a local beach in time to catch the sun setting

The ever-changing sky painted an extraordinary canvas of swirling colours

Hordes of people were similarly cooling off - families having picnics on the lawns, others strolling at the water's edge, still more playing beach volleyball and some
just walking the dog

Although the wide variety of amazing treats inside this establishment were very tempting,
a delicately flavoured ice-cream did the trick!

. . . while on the other side of the sky, the melon-shaped moon was making
its presence evident

and a week or two ago I spotted this from my garden  (is it any wonder I continue to have the "travel bug" !?)

Lunar eclipse

Last Saturday night revealed the shortest lunar eclipse this century and our night skies displayed an astonishing "blood moon".  This astronomical event occurs when the sun, moon and Earth align, and the moon's colour is a result of sunlight scattering off Earth's atmosphere.

Despite clouds drifting by, I managed to capture these images.

. . . and the following shots were taken during my 20 minute observations

There will not be another total lunar eclipse (visible from earth) until 2018.

Moonbeams

While enjoying the exquisite scenery on Vancouver Island this time last year, I caught these shots of the moon reflecting on Blue Heron Bay.

(Couldn't make up my mind which single shot to post, so decided on several - hope you enjoy them too!)

(With grateful thanks to John of "By Stargoose & Hanglands" fame, for his guidance on adjusting my blog so I could show you larger images - where that seems appropriate. Blessings, John!)
