Shades of Oxford UK

Some 40+ years ago I lived in Oxford, England, for 2 years.
During my trip to the UK & Europe earlier this year, a re-visit here was an essential component of my itinerary.  Once again I marvelled at the glorious architecture and sense of history (even though the bold commercialism of today was this time much more evident).

Going clock-wise (from the left) around the collage below, these colourful boats were adjacent to Magdalen Bridge awaiting eager and energetic customers;  a very weathered doorway giving access to one of the college grounds; part of Magdalen College; Oxford's "Bridge of Sighs" linking two parts of Hertford College; the beautiful tower of Merton College, and finally the outside edge of the original City wall, abutting Christchurch Meadow.

A Winter's meanderings

Following on from my posts of the past few days, here are some
other shots taken on that lovely winter's afternoon:

This group appeared to be competing in what I assume to be kayak polo (?)
on Mawson Lakes.
Some of them had "Australia" printed on the back of their vests but I
couldn't distinguish who their opponents were. They seemed to be having a great time.

This pair of funghi was hiding beneath some shrubs growing lakeside

The perimeter of Parafield Airport - used predominantly for small, light aircraft.
Flight training is also conducted here and joy flights in some early
war-time aircraft

and that yellow brightening up the area is from "squillions"
of Soursobs (or, as I like to call them - "Poor Man's Daffodils"!)

As can be seen from the windsock, it was a pretty calm afternoon

Slate

Last month I mentioned a visit to the wonderfully historic mid-north town of Mintaro. Here are some images which show the extensive use of slate which was gathered from the local quarry. What patience the builders must have possessed!

First day of Spring

Last Saturday was our first day of Spring, which called for an outing to the Patawalonga Marina - one of two exclusive mooring sites for the very expensive pleasure boats of Adelaide's wealthier residents.
It was mid-to late afternoon by the time we arrived (having first "detoured" further down the coast) and conditions were just perfect for the gentleman paddling his kayak on the river.  People just relaxing on the lawns, beach, in cafes or bars weren't complaining either!  Since then, we've experienced some wild, wet and "woolly" days, but now, a week later, another glorious Spring day presents itself.
Trusting whatever season you're in right now that you are able to find some joy in it.

A country town collection . .

These were taken on a recent photo shoot north of Adelaide.
The lady in the middle looks as though someone took her seriously when she said
"I'd give my left arm to work here!"
