Surfing Australia

A day trip out of Geelong led to Bells Beach, a renowned surf beach some 100kms south-west of Melbourne, on the Great Ocean Road near the town of Torquay.  Bells Beach is named after John Cavert Bell of the family that first took up a pastoral run there in the 1840s. (credit Wikipedia)

It was a blustery, grey day, but the avid surfers were having a glorious time.

Surprisingly, the sand on the shore was not the usual bright white colour one associates with Australian beaches.

Oops!  Maybe Surfing "Down Under" ??!

. . .  and this cute fellow caught my eye as I walked back up from the observation deck to the car park!
