Further south

Following a busy week, I headed off with my Nikon to Milang, about a 1.5 hr drive south, on the shores of Lake Alexandrina, a fresh water lake with a catchment area of more than 1million square kilometres.

Mosquitoes (and the possibility of meeting a red-bellied black snake 😮😮😮 - according to the information placard near the wetlands trail!) determined I would not "linger longer".

Have a housesit booked for Port Lincoln on South Australia's Eyre Peninsula over Christmas/New Year, but as my home city of Adelaide has just experienced an outbreak pocket of Covid19 (after an encouraging few months of few cases and the relaxing of border shutdowns), we are now back to the restrictions brought in seven months ago. The Port Lincoln hosts may now not be able to travel interstate to spend Christmas with their family, hence there will be no need for my presence to "sit" their home. :-( .  Disappointing of course but, in the overall scheme of things, it is merely a blip on the screen of life's journey and it is far better to adhere to sensible measures which could save lives.

The SW Coast

Spent a delightful day yesterday revisiting the South West coast of South Australia in my very favourite region of our State - the Fleurieu Peninsula

This was one of several grottos in the cliff face at Second Valley

The shoreline is covered with these flat pebbles, smoothed by the constant washing and tumbling of the ocean

These next few shots show the extraordinary colouring of the cliff face that has been eroded over time, revealing this beautiful artwork of nature

En route to Second Valley, we drove through Normanville, where this kangaroo was just lazing around in a paddock adjacent to the road.

Our first stop on the Peninsula - for the inevitable coffee :-) - was Sellicks Beach

There's no doubt about it - you'd be hard pressed to better the spectacular beaches of Australia!

Extraordinary Riverland

This week saw a visit to South Australia's Riverland region over the course of 4 days.  The area encompasses significant production of citrus fruits and winegrapes.

The River Murray meanders its way through our State and, in the Riverland, through the towns of Renmark, Loxton, Berri and Waikerie (amongst others). The town of Barmera offers Lake Bonney as a major tourist attraction for those wishing to escape the hustle and bustle of city life - it surely is a very peaceful environment.  (I apologise for the fuzziness of some of these shots!)

            (I'd be very grateful if someone is able to identify this bird for me  :-))

                (.... the identity of this one also eludes me - possibly an owl ?)
