Last Saturday night revealed the shortest lunar eclipse this century and our night skies displayed an astonishing "blood moon". This astronomical event occurs when the sun, moon and Earth align, and the moon's colour is a result of sunlight scattering off Earth's atmosphere.
Despite clouds drifting by, I managed to capture these images.
. . . and the following shots were taken during my 20 minute observations
There will not be another total lunar eclipse (visible from earth) until 2018.

ReplyDeleteThat first shot is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteCool.
ReplyDeleteamazing shots Valerie. It was great to see wasn't it? I got some shots too over here in WA despite the drifting clouds.
ReplyDeleteHow exciting to have seen the "Blood Moon"! Your photos are fabulous!
ReplyDeleteOutstanding moon shots! Tough to capture, but these are wonderful.
ReplyDeleteWow, stunning captures! Good for you.
ReplyDeleteWe couldn't see it from here.
stunning shots of the eclipse. I could not see it as it was raining where I live :(
ReplyDeleteSo glad you managed to get some shots Valerie, Heavy cloud prevented me seeing it. I was all set up with the camera and tripod but there was not even a gap to see the moon.
ReplyDeleteThe colours in that first moon shot are very spectacular. We had our own eclipse recently but with lots of cloud it was something of a disappointment following all the hype.
ReplyDeleteYou captured it beautifully! I managed to miss it altogether.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen a blood moon but your photos show it off magnificently.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous fotos, have a nice month april,

Stunningly beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos and really great that your skies were clear enough to see it well. We had light overcast - enough to see where the moon was but clear enough to see more.
ReplyDeleteSorry I am late replying to you - a big storm yesterday knocked out my net connection - and then I lost the phone while the technicians fixed everything this morning.
Wonderful, I've never seen the moon look red.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant shots Valerie, the first one is stunningly beautiful.
ReplyDeleteOh WOW! Your first photo is truly amazing! I can see why it's called a "blood moon."
ReplyDeleteFantastic moon photos, wow!
ReplyDeleteYou are a lucky lady! Your photos are amazing. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteGreat captures Valerie.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots - I was able to watch the first part - but never got the blood Moon shots - too much cloud.
